Gavrilovic is the founder of the video game company Gamechuck. Based out of a tiny office crammed with computers in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, the company is organized around equality: Each worker earns the same salary and shares the profits of the games they create. All decisions are reached through anonymous voting on Discord: The 17-person collective recently voted to shorten workdays from eight hours to six.

Founded in 2018, Glitter Bean exists to provide employment and community space that affirms the dignity, wellness and joy of queer, BIPOC and equity-deserving communities.

In 1979, the Latin American & Iberian Institute (LAII) was founded to coordinate Latin American programs at the University of New Mexico. MISSION: The Latin American & Iberian Institute's mission is to create a stimulating environment for the production and dissemination of knowledge of Latin America and Iberia at UNM. DESCRIPTION: Designated a National Resource Center (NRC) by the U.S. Department of Education, the Latin American & Iberian Institute offers academic degrees, supports research, provides development opportunities for faculty, and coordinates an outreach program that reaches diverse constituents.

Center for Community Land Trust Innovation is Hiring

The Center for Community Land Trust (CLT) Innovation seeks to hire a Communications Manager as a full-time employee.  This is a fully remote position, with the expectation of international travel at least once per year. Qualified candidates who would prefer a three-quarter time position will also be considered, with compensation and benefits prorated accordingly.  This is a bilingual position, with full professional fluency required in both Spanish and English.  Additionally, all applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Working Democracies: Managing Inequality in Worker Cooperatives

In this inside look at worker cooperatives, Joan Meyers challenges long-held views and beliefs. From the outside, worker cooperatives all seem to offer alternatives to bad jobs and unequal treatment by giving workers democratic control and equitable ownership of their workplaces. Some contend, however, that such egalitarianism and self-management come at the cost of efficiency and stability, and are impractical in the long run.

Sooke residents band together to save beloved local cafe

A beloved Sooke coffee house closed its doors Sunday but is expected to reopen later this summer or fall, after about 400 community members banded together to purchase the business through a co-op.

Stick in the Mud Coffee House owner David Evans signed the sale papers with Sooke Community Investment Cooperative president Wendy O’Connor in front of a cheering crowd on Sunday an hour before closing.

The café is expected to reopen under the name Café Vosino, after V0S 1N0, Sooke’s former postal code and the shop’s popular Americano drink.
