Many small growers across the global south experience unfair trading manifestations and practices, are trapped into selling their product at drastically low prices, and are stuck below or near the poverty line because of exploitative market intermediaries. To cope, small growers have united under the cooperative organisation model where small growers pool together their talent and skills to execute the role of intermediaries, eliminating their need and making direct connections to international markets.

Ventures partners with rural Latino working-class families in California’s Central Coast to ensure a shared and equitable economic future for all.

Our transformational programs make certain that individuals understand and use their economic and political power. From building their savings to advocating for a living wage, our approach builds community and connects financial stability, wealth building, and self-determination. Our work creates dignity by recognizing, acknowledging, and valuing our community members’ leadership in making change happen.

On a quiet day this spring, Alejandra Chavez walked into her office at Westside Mobile Home Park in Durango, Colorado. Residents were gathered in the community space, discussing their plans for the park’s future, some leaning on the kitchen’s baby-blue counters while others sat in plastic lawn chairs. A year ago, this building was owned by a New York corporation and was off-limits to residents. But now, residents use the space for yoga, child care and community events. That afternoon, there were piñatas in the corner, left over from a recent birthday party.
