Cooperatives are businesses and organizations democratically owned and managed by the people they serve. They come in many shapes and sizes: from a handful of people to thousands upon thousands of members. Some are owned and run by workers, others are owned and governed by consumers, still others are for producers (like farmers and artists).
Yochai Gal has been instrumental in founding two worker cooperatives: the San Francisco TechCollective, and more recently, the Boston TechCollective in Somerville, MA. Yochai was born in Israel but raised in California and started repairing computers when he was 17.

Tim Davies talked about the idea of a network of co-ops who could refer clients and support each other. That tends not to be happening across the co-op sector as a whole. He remarked that there might be an interesting space for co-op to co-op cooperation. Tim is now working on a project to document co-ops in the UK.
