The cooperative ownership model of resident-owned communities (ROCs) pioneered by ROC USA helps MHC residents resist displacement, but little research assesses how cooperative tenure impacts hazard vulnerability. To fill this gap, we conduct a spatial analysis of 234 ROC USA sites; analyze the co-op conversion process; and interview ROC USA staff, technical assistance providers, and resident co-op leaders.

It was just so frustrating.”

Thus far, we have distributed $140,000 in such grants; and we will provide additional grant funds in 2022. The grants cover business development services that are often a barrier to entrepreneurship for many people in our community. MCDC has developed two loan programs for worker cooperatives in Madison through Kiva and Shared Capital Cooperative.

Comradery is developing a cooperative take on the Patreon model

It’s easy to compare Comradery to Patreon. Both allow creators to collect money from subscribers, and both allow them to offer content, bonuses, and updates in return. But where Patreon is beholden to venture capital, Comradery is controlled democratically by the people who use it.
