Catalyzing worker co-ops & the solidarity economy

How Worker-Buyouts Can Save Jobs and Build Resilient Businesses

Body paragraph

[Editor's note: below is an examination of the benefits of Italy's Marcora Law, which allows unemployed workers to receive future welfare benefits as a lump sum payment for the purpose of restarting a shuttered business (or starting a new one) as a worker cooperative. The authors make the case that countries in the EU and elsewhere should implement similar policies to bolster their domestic small and medium sized enterprises. The paper is rather long and academic, so for those who prefer an abridged version we've embedded a short video of Richard Wolff explaining the Marcora law and its benefits on the Give Them an Argument podcast at the bottom of the page.]
