Dr TM Thomas Isaac is the former Finance Minister of Government of Kerala, a renowned economist and one of the chief architects of Kerala’s famous People’s Plan Campaign. He delivered the valedictorian address of the Urban Action School 2021 during which he spoke on the future of the social solidarity economy. He drew upon his own experience and shared insights on why certain cooperatives like ULCCS and Kerala Dinesh sustain themselves and achieve success over the years even in the face of competition from larger corporate entities. He calls for the creation of a policy environment which is supportive of social solidarity economy.
