Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 and launched the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025, saying that the conference will provide insights into India’s future cooperative journey.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said, “Global conference of the International Cooperative Alliance is being organised for the first time in India. In India, we are expanding the cooperative movement. I am convinced we will get insights into India’s future cooperative journey through this conference. Besides, through the experiences of India, the Global Cooperative movement will get tools of the 21st century and a new spirit.”
PM Modi said that the cooperative movement is witnessing an expansion in India. “For the world, cooperative is a model, but for India, it is the foundation of culture and it is a lifestyle,” he added.
Highlighting achievements in the cooperative sector, Modi said that India has over 8 lakh [800,000] cooperatives, and 98 per cent of rural areas are covered by them. About 300 million people are associated with cooperatives in India, he said.
