Catalyzing worker co-ops & the solidarity economy

Circular Economy and bioeconomy in agricultural Cooperatives in Catalonia

Agriculture, and specifically the agrifood cooperative sector, has always integrated the principles of the circular economy, bioeconomy and sustainability into its activity.

However, the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda represent at the same time challenges and opportunities for the agrifood sector. The Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia (FCAC) works with the aim of supporting the agricultural sector, facilitating the attainment of the necessary resources and partners to carry out the initiatives related to sustainability, circular economy and bioeconomy. FCAC supports cooperatives to go a step further in taking advantage of the large volumes of co-products generated in their activity, by optimizing production structures and processes with the use of technology. FCAC purpose is to help agrifood cooperatives achieve new added value and become more profitable and sustainable, while promoting the transition to a green economy.

We suggest a tour throughout some circular economy and bioeconomy projects that Catalan agricultural cooperatives are developing. We also encourage you to rely on the collaboration of the FCAC as a catalyst entity to carry out initiatives and new projects that promote the efficiency and sustainability of the productive agrifood sector and maintain our territorial structure.
